Hurricane Ike
As many of you know, Hurricane Ike blasted through Galveston and Houston last Friday evening. Luckily, we already had standing plans to visit friends in Austin that weekend. Therefore we packed up and headed to Austin on Thursday, as our friends graciously accepted us a day early. While friends and family decided to tough it out in Houston, we were comfy and cozy in our a/c and dry environment in Austin. Lucky us!

The good news to report is that there is little to minimal damage on our new home. Shortly before we left Houston, we quickly took all 'moveable' items and placed them inside the house (planters, pots, grill, etc.) for fear they would fly and potentially break a window. We feel incredibly blessed that we thought of this, as the report is that we lost no windows during Ike's blasts.
My (Kitty's) parents however, have a tree down on the roof, which caused some damage. I posted pictures below. Luckily the tree landed on a room that is being remodeled and there was absolutely NOTHING in the room when Ike hit. Although they did have to do 'bucket bridgade', as my Dad calls it, they sustained minimal damage.
On Saturday, my parents found a generator AND gas, so they have a functioning fridge/freezer and some power for some fans, in order to keep cool. My Dad even was able to purchase 2 chainsaws (after waiting in line for 2 hours) and found some free hands to come by and begin to take the tree down. So, as a whole, our family and friends have been very lucky.
As for our lives at the moment, we are tucked away in Austin with our friends, Brian & Benita. They have been incredibly accomodating in this unfortunate situation. Thanks guys!! Our plan for now is to just stay put until we absolutely have to go back to Houston. With no power, very little gas and groceries, life would not be much fun. So for now, we are just working remotely and trying to hang in there with our 3 day supply of clothes. :)
Hope everyone else is safe and sound!

Wow - I can't imagine being in a house with a tree falling on it. I remember that tree too. I'm sad to hear about Rhett and Suzie's place, but happy that it might just be minor compared with what else it could have been. We thought about you guys and all of our friends quite a bit last week. I fear the worst about the beach house in Galveston, but again, I'm very happy that you're all safe. I'm glad you got to Austin alright, and hope the trip up wasn't as bad as Rita in 2005.
Many blessings!
